Our rearing horse necklaces have been hand cut from swirls of copper and silver. This mixed-metal medium is called mokume-gane.
Mokume-gane is a type of Japanese mixed-metal consisting of swirls of different metals layered in patterns as you can see in the picture. This material is unique because it gives the appearance of natural wood grain. When several layers of differently colored metals form a sandwich of alloys it's called a "billet." The billet is then manipulated in such a way that a pattern resembling wood grain emerges over its surface. Since there are numerous ways of working the mokume gane patterns, every "wood-grain-like" structure will look slightly different from the picture! We then cut the inside horse out by hand with a small jewelers saw.
This whole horse arrowhead piece pictured above is a little larger than a silver dollar. You may choose your own chain sizes above. If there is a design that you favor on our store and would like to see it on mokume gane instead, please message us so we can make your design come to life!
Be sure to share this new design of ours with your friends and family!
